Arkansas Polk County Master Gardeners
Master Gardeners are men and women who volunteer their time working
with the community, landscaping and beautifying the county. At the same
time educating themselves on horticulture issues so they, along with the
Arkansas Extension Services, educate the community and
answer questions pertaining to horticulture, insect and disease issues.
Becoming a Master Gardener involves contacting your local county extension office and signing up for the next Master Gardener class. There is a fee to take the class but the fee covers the materials you will receive for the class, your MG T-shirt and name tag. All Master Gardeners are required to maintain a certain amount of Work and Education hours each year as well as attending a monthly meeting.
I became a Polk County Master Gardener April, 2009 and I am enjoying the experiences. Being involved with the community, meeting new people and making friends with the other MG's and understanding it doesn't matter how much you think you may know about horticulture, you are always learning something new and being refreshed on what you forgot! Obtaining the required Work and Education hours is not hard unless you never show up to help out or attend a meeting.
